About
Channing House is a not-for-profit Life Plan Community (CCRC) in the heart of downtown Palo Alto, established in 1961. Residents enjoy maintenance-free balcony apartments with breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay, East Bay hills, Stanford, and the Santa Cruz Mountains — just blocks from Stanford University and Palo Alto's vibrant downtown. The community is renowned for its extraordinary lifestyle programming: over 50 resident-run programs and clubs spanning the arts, fitness, education, social justice, and more. Highlights include a resident theater troupe (The Channing House Players), a resident chorus, professor-led current events discussions, travel groups, painting and drawing classes, and regular concerts and performances in the on-site auditorium. Fitness amenities include a 55-foot indoor heated lap pool, a rooftop walking track, a 24-hour fitness center with the latest cardio and strength equipment, group classes (Yoga, Tai Chi, Strength & Balance, Line Dancing), and a dedicated Fall Prevention Program. Personal training is available at all levels of care. All utilities, high-speed internet, cable TV, telephone service, and weekly housekeeping are included in the monthly fee. Security is provided around the clock, with a 24-hour nursing station, emergency pendants for all residents, and front desk staffing 24/7. Channing House offers a full continuum of care on-site, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing — providing residents and their families lasting peace of mind.
